LEGO mindstorms have put out a brilliant addition to their old Mindstorms NXT, with this NXT 2.0 release. There are quite a few things that needed (some) improvement from the “1.0” version, and they have done a great job of solving them with this newer release.

The robot is capable (through the NXT brick) of communicating via Bluetooth with a PC or up to 3 other NXT robots. The blocks that come with this version of NXT are all “studless” TECHNIC bricks, all of the studded TECHNIC bricks have been removed.
The different starter robots that are presented for you include the RoboGator, ShooterBot, ColorSorter and lastly AlphaRex. The RoboGator is a small robot alligator that is programmed to snap his jaws at objects that move in front of it. The ShooterBot is a robot that shoots balls at any object it detects moving in its sensors. The ColorSorter as you might imagine, sorts colors into different trays in front of it. The ColorSorter makes use of the color sensor.
Finally the AlphaRex is a robot that this set was designed for (the one on the box) and is a humanoid robot which can walk both forwards and back. It can also turn, grab and release objects, talk, and even see.
