grills

Grilling is a big part of our lives. People all over the world love the taste of grilled food, especially those cooked using charcoal. The smoky flavor produced by charcoal grills cannot be achieved with the use of other types of grills. It is only unique to charcoal. The cast iron hibachi is a perfect example of a charcoal grill. They are sold at leading department stores and they can be bought at affordable prices.

If you have recently acquired a cast iron hibachi and you are raring to use it, there are safety precautions you need to remember. You have to know how to use charcoal grills properly so you can avoid accidents and get the best results.

Always look for a flat and level surface where you can palace the grill. Remember that charcoal grills should be used outdoors and not inside the house. This type of grill produces fumes which are toxic to humans. Make sure that you pick a spot outside if your house which is away from trees and things which easily catch fire. Make sure that your grill does not wobble.

Before using your charcoal grill, you have to make sure that everything is in its place. There should be no missing parts. A clean grill also helps.

Put the briquettes on the grill in the form of a pyramid. How much charcoal should you choose? A rule of thumb which is helpful to remember is for every pound of meat, you should use 30 briquettes. You should have adequate briquettes, how your meat will turn out also depends on this. The briquettes should extend to about 2 inches beyond the food.

Half a cup of lighter fluid should be enough to light the charcoal and get you ready for grilling. Wait till the fluid soaks into the charcoal before lighting it. Crumpled newspaper can also be used as a good alternative to lighter fluid. Crumple if first before placing it underneath the briquettes. When lighting the charcoal, use the help of a long handled match. You definitely do not want to get burned.

Enjoy and have a great time cooking on your cast iron hibachi.

The first time one goes in to the grilling aisle of a store, it can be quite overwhelming.  There are dozens of different grill tools, all of which have odd names and even odder designs.  It can be easy to assume that these are just bizarre gadgets that no sane person actually needs, yet quite a few have a place in the home of anyone that owns a grill.  For example, these few grilling tools are absolutely necessary for anyone that wants to cook out.

The Spatula

This is not strictly a grilling tool, but is a necessity on the grill.  Be it for flipping patties or handling hot veggies, one cannot hope to cook anything without a decent spatula.  When grilling, one should look for something sturdy enough to bear a decent amount of weight.

Tongs

Tongs are the cousin of the spatula, useful for anything solid that needs to be flipped (generally things in tinfoil, poultry, or sausages).  Finding a pair of tongs of solid construction and a good deal of length will help make the cooking process easier, and help keep hands from being burned.

Basting Brush

This one is especially important for those that cook steaks or poultry.  Being able to baste on sauce during the cooking process can turn an ordinary meal in to something extraordinary.  One should generally find a brush that has a good deal of length between the handle and brush head, if only to avoid the heat of the grill.

Grill Scraper

Getting a scraper will keep the grill from becoming unusable.  Scrapers are preferable to their normal alternative, the steel wool pad, because they allow a griller to clean the grill while it is still hot (and thus detritus is easier to remove).  A scraper may either be a steel wool pad on a stick or somewhat of a hardened fork or spatula, but either model will keep buildup off the grill.

Grilling tools are necessary for cooking, period.  They may look odd, but these specialized tools can help the experience go much more smoothly.  Make sure to pick up what is necessary at first, and make sure to keep an eye on those odd looking extras – you never know what may come in handy in the future.
