It quickly became very evident that I was sleeping too much every day after I was called into the office for the third time for being late to work. Men who drink more than six cups of coffee each day have a 20% less chance of getting cancer and a 60% reduced risk of getting a lethal prostate cancer diagnosis, says a recent US study.

A group of researchers at US based Harvard School of Public Health followed over 50,000 men for around 20 years. The study goal was to check if coffee intake had a connection with the risk of developing prostate cancer. In addition to the coffee intake of the participants, researchers also recorded their medical history and diet habits, i.e. was there more than just coffee in their cup holders, or was there soda, tea, etc.

The study found that compared to men who do not consume coffee, men who drank six or more cups of coffee had a reduced risk of getting cancer and an even lower risk of getting fatal cancer. This discovery applied to caffeinated as well as decaffeinated coffee, which is good considering the other health effects mentioned later.

The research was published in the Journal of the National Cancer and also reported in Daily Express, The Independent, The Daily Mail and BBC. While Daily Express and The Independent reported favorably about the research, The Daily Mail and BBC didn’t.
