Parents often worry about their child’s education especially when the child goes to college. Universities are not cheap, college is not cheap. There are students who cannot go to college because there is not enough money. Some students work their way through college to help pay for educations. Parents, in the other hand, have the option to take out PLUS loans. PLUS loans are from the federal government. However, not all parents are sure about PLUS loans and not all parents qualify for it. What are the alternatives to PLUS loans? For one, there is bad credit loans guaranteed approval and unsecured personal loans bad credit for parents who have undesirable credit ratings and scores.

One alternative to PLUS loans are personal loans or home equity loans. Parents must note than this requires collateral. Eligibility is determined through an extensive credit check so people with bad credit will not have a good chance of getting approved. Interest is fixed but it may be a little high. This loan does not tolerate late payments. If the borrower defaults on payment, the collateral will be repossessed by the bank or the lending institution and you could end up without a home is your home is the collateral. There is no option for postponement and deferment. These are also very high closing costs. There are, however. Some tax deduction benefits for home equity loans but not on personal and private loans.

Aside from personal loans, there are also private student loans which the students themselves can apply for. This is an option which a lot of students love because they do not have to wait for their parents. These private loans may require a co-signer when the student does not have enough credit. Interest rates may vary because they re determine through the student’s credit rating. There are also origination fees which are higher than those of federal loans. Most private student loans have flexible repayment plans which are what makes them appealing to many students.

I have a problem with going out.  No, not that I can’t get out through the door, but more the hassle it is sometimes.  Or rather, it’s a hassle when I have to sort things out like going out to celebrate someone else’s meal.  Yes, you can call me a grumpy old man, see if  I care, but it really isn’t funny as far as I am concerned.

If you are planning on going out, and that is the best you can come up with for someone’s 40th birthday ideas, then you had better be prepared to sort out organising the venue, coordinating the guests, and trying to keep it all as one big surprise.  Fair enough, it can be a really good time out if it all goes well, but why is it in my part of Lancashire in the northwest of England things don’t usually work out ok?

This is the problem.  One of my family at least is always late.  The meals always go astray.  The waiter loses our order.  We almost plan for the worst to happen these days…

Perhaps that’s why so often we do our thing at home, and 40th birthday party ideas at home aren’t that bad.  First up, you can coordinate everything without too many hassles.  You can invite the guests.  You can get the special guest out of the house so that you can sort things out (just send them out with a friend for the day).

You can make sure that you give everyone, especially Aunty Elsie, enough time to arrive and get them hidden.

But the biggest thing in my book is that it is so much cheaper!  Now whilst you might not think it, imagine going out for a meal, often you don’t get much change from £40 a head (about $60).  You just need 10 people and imagine how amazing the decor for the house could be on that!  Moreover, you can pay for 10 people, but invite 100 and the price will still be the same.  Get everyone to bring a bit of food or a drink and your price really starts to come down.  Party at a good price.

So I might be a grumpy old man, but boy, do I know how to party on the cheap!  What do you think, go out, or stay in?
